Make a Difference

Occasionally, someone shares with me the fact that they don’t watch or read the news to keep up to date on environmental issues. As they feel it is all too negative and it only makes them feel sad. I’ll admit, I don’t regularly watch the news, but I do think it’s important to stay up to date on information that affects us all. There are also extremes to this stance, as there are some individuals that constantly watch the news and regurgitate the (often biased) information they hear. And yet, there are some that completely turn away from all of this and “hand it over” to a higher power. Don’t get me wrong, all belief systems offer something to humanity in terms of personal and societal growth and contribution. However, I don’t see turning over your “power” to assist in situations that affect us here and now on this Earth as something that is beneficial to us as a human race.

I am confident that Mother Earth will evolve, adapt, and eventually, thrive if humankind no longer inhabited the planet. We have set into motion our own extinction. Sounds gloomy, right? Absolutely.

At this point, we can simply ignore it or choose to make a difference. So this is where the light shines in the dark. Where YOU have the choice, to either- sit in the dark in total despair or get up and seek out that light. I inherited a strong sense of “quitting is not an option” from my dad, so you’ll know my answer here.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better. It’s not. ~Dr. Seuss

How do we make a difference?  Start small. Begin by getting educated in something that you feel passionate about. Do some research- real research. Do not use social media to research facts. Always cross-reference and learn both sides of an issue. This will spark that light you are seeking…..become a voice for an issue that inspires you! Don’t hide in the dark. Sign petitions, make phone calls, educate others and make changes in how you live your own life. Need some inspiration? I really like some of these suggestions.

You can make a difference.

“It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there’ll be any fruit. But that doesn’t mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.”
